Welcome:
On December 1st, 2004 Shelby Richter, (12 years young) was diagnosed with a large mass in her abdomen.  She underwent emergency surgery the following morning at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia for partial removal of the tumor.
It took 3 weeks for the Pathologist to identify her tumor.  Shelby was diagnosed with "Undifferentiated Sarcoma" on December 21st. She immediately started her initial chemotherapy treatment and was sent home for the Christmas Holiday.  The chemotherapy continued into 2005.
On February 2, 2005, Shelby turned 13 years old.  She also had an appointment at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City.  This is the day her family faced the reality of cancer and was told that there was no (medical) treatment that would cure Shelby and that surgery was not an option.
Desperate for options, her family took Shelby for alternative medical treatment in Atlanta, Georgia.  After one treatment the Doctor told the family that he recommended Shelby return home to be close to family and friends.
Shelby passed away on March 15, 2005
