Shelby Richter Fund's Special Thanks

THANK YOU!!! Dr. Orsey

The day Shelby found out that there was nothing more that CHOP could do, she was told by one of the nicest and the most professional doctors that we all came in contact with.  When Dr. Orsey had stopped over Shelby's Dad's house, she had asked for a little privacy with Shelby.  We were always comfortable with Dr. Orsey talking to Shelby, so we obliged.  When the doctor was done talking to Shelby, she was in the living room crying.  Dr. Orsey came into the back room where we gathered and she proceeded to tell us what "Absecon's Angel" said. 

It was at this time that the doctor told Shelby there was no cure in site.  Shelby then responded by saying, "Dr. Orsey, can you promise to do something for me?"

"I'll do anything for you Shelby, what is it?", said the doctor.

As Shelby wept, she said "Can you promise to find a cure, so that no other little girls have to die from this?" This is where Shelby's Wishes first began. 

Shelby's doctor had won an award for the CHOP resident who extends themselves above and beyond the call of duty.  With the thoughts of Shelby still in Dr. Orsey's mind, they asked her where she would like to donate the award.  She chose to give this generous award to The Shelby Richter Fund.  We posted the letter that we received.

The Letter:

 On behalf of Stephen Ludwig, M.D. Associate Physician-in-Chief for the Medical Education at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, it is my pleasure to present the Shelby Richter Fund with the enclosed $750 check.
Your organization was designated to receive this gift by Andrea Dahlman Orsey, M.D., winner of The Nancy Elizabeth Barbhardt Award.  The Award is presented once a year to a Children’s Hospital resident who extends beyond Hospital duties to improve the heath and well-being of children in the community.  Each Award recipient designates a portion of the Award stipend to a community project.

Dane Cook for Dedicating your latest CD/DVD - Retaliation to Shelby.While Dane was doing TOURGASM (PRESENTLY ON HBO)he called Shelby and would make her laugh and forget, even for a second, that she was "terminally ill" I have been buying all the CD/DVD's that I could get my hands on and have been giving them away as gifts.

First and foremost, we would like to thank John & JoAnn Rifici for everything they have done for our cause. For the past three years and four successful benefits, John and JoAnn have generously donated their valuable time, hospitality and food in our effort to help raise money for research, awareness and scholarships for "Absecon's Angel", Shelby Richter.   A special thank you also goes out to the new owners of Rifici’s, Dian and Maria Pogrebivsky.  You stepped in and took over without skipping a beat.  We thank you for allowing us to continue to hold our annual benefit at your establishment.  To John & JoAnn Rifici and Dian and Maria Pogrebivsky. We would like to "Thank" these young adults for their ongoing community service.  Once again, the community "welcomed" them with open arms. Their steadfast determination shines as they continue to help raise funds and awareness for their friend, Shelby Richter.

The Shelby Richter Benefit Committee extends our heartfelt thanks and gratitude for your support in our fight against Undifferentiated Sarcoma.  Through your assistance, you are helping to make Shelby's dying wish a reality by participating in our fund raising efforts.  The funds raised at the 1st and 2nd  Annual Shelby Richter Benefits were used to finance $60,000. in medical research  grants through the Sarcoma Foundation of America.  Thanks to your donations, we are able to present another check in the amount of $30,000 bringing our total to $90,000. in research grants in Shelby's name.  The money raised will also help to secure (2) two $500. scholarships to our youth.
